About

The Norwegian Association for Development Research (NFU) works to promote development-related research and training in Norway, and to connect the Norwegian development research community by supporting links and providing channels for interdisciplinary exchange and cooperation between members.

Working together with Norwegian research institutions and/or universities, the association organizes academic events. In the past NFU organized biennial national conferences, but due to lack of funding opportunities this is now on pause. We invite universities/research institutes to co-organize events with NFU, to broaden the public and increase communication. You can read about our last co-organized event here (link to the seminar with UiA).

In addition to national events, NFU co-organizes Nordic conferences in cooperation with sister institutions in the neighboring countries. Our 7th Joint Nordic Conference is coming up 21-23 August 2023, in Uppsala. The thematic focus for the conference is “Co-creation for transition towards a sustainable society”. NFU is a co-owner of the academic journal Forum for Development Studies together with the Norwegian Institute of Foreign Affairs (NUPI):  https://www.tandfonline.com/action/journalInformation?show=aimsScope&journalCode=sfds20

From 2023 we publish a bi-monthly newsletter as a platform to share information from our networks, included upcoming conferences, events, seminars, and job opportunities. All members are welcome to contact us and share any relevant events/news/updates.  If you’d like to receive the newsletter, please subscribe here.
